WEDDINGS IN SPAIN
The law in Spain requires couples to have a civil marriage contract if they don’t want a religious ceremony. This also applies to same sex marriages which are legal in Spain. An application to get married in Spain usually involves a lot of bureaucracy and can be time-consuming. When neither of the parties is a Spanish citizen one of them must usually be legally resident in Spain for the previous two years. For this reason, most ex-pat couples choose to have their marriages legalised in the UK or in the Register Office in Gibraltar which has the same legal status as a UK office. There is currently a six month waiting list for Gibraltar. Please contact me for more advice or options.
Your wedding in Spain can, however, feel exactly like a wedding with all the ceremony that entails. You’ll make your vows in front of your friends and family and I will script a ceremony that truly reflects the story of your life together. Your ceremony can take place anywhere you like, round your pool, at a restaurant, on the beach, at a castle. The possibilities are endless.
I perform ceremonies in English but can arrange a translator if required.
FUNERALS IN SPAIN
Funerals in Spain generally take place within 48 hours of the death and can be at a cemetery, chapel or crematorium. They are usually very brief but many people want to hold a ceremony afterwards, perhaps somewhere particularly special to the person they have lost. I can create a ceremony that reflects the character and the little idiosyncrasies that make someone special, held in front of family and friends. In the whirlwind of a death, it is often helpful to hold a ceremony later to help the grieving process and provide a sense of closure.
