Wedding FAQS – The Legal and Practical Bits

WEDDINGS / CIVIL PARTNERSHIPS / SAME SEX MARRIAGES

Can the celebrant legally marry us?

Your marriage has to be signed and witnessed in front of a registrar who can also conduct the whole ceremony for you. Usually this is an impersonal ceremony and you will not have met the registrar before the day. It doesn’t have to be like that, though. I can help you create the ceremony of your dreams, personalised to suit you with vows, music, readings that capture the essence of who you are and your lives. There are two ways of handling this:

You can have the legal ceremony quietly and privately at the register office and then, either the same day, or a day or so later have the ‘proper’ and most important ceremony at a venue of your choice (not necessarily licensed) in front of all your family and friends, meaning you can have a truly bespoke ceremony.

Or you can invite the registrar to a licensed ceremony venue to sign the register and carry out the minimal legal requirements, and then continue with a ceremony which I will deliver and which we can plan together.

What is the cost?

Costs will vary according to the ceremony and the travel involved.

My fee will include at least one (probably more) preliminary meeting, liaising with your venue and wedding planner (if involved), writing and preparing the ceremony, attending the rehearsal/walk-through, delivering the ceremony and being available for photographs afterwards. Later, I will present you with a parchment certificate and a bound copy of the ceremony.

I will ask for a deposit when appointed and the remainder will be payable before the rehearsal or one week before the ceremony. I will never do more than one wedding in a day so your deposit ensures that I save the date for you and you alone.

When you first contact me, we’ll talk through what you’d like and then I will give you a written confirmation of costs for you to approve before we proceed.
